The Men's and Women's Life Recovery Groups meet Sundays at 5:00pm at the building. This is a 12 step based support group to help men face life's problems
Kairos church planting is one of the exciting ministries
of this church.We recently received
newsfrom 10 or our 15 new churches
about Easter.Total attendance at those
ten churcheswas 1331. 372 of those were guests.Easter attendance at our church plants
exceeded Southwest's attendance this year.We also rejoice that there have been 27 baptisms so far this year. Our Kairos goal this year was one baptism per
week.In 2011 the goal will be one
baptism per day.Our greatest impact on
reaching lost people is coming through Kairos.Thank you for your commitment and support.
In spite of these growing successes, we have found issues
in starting new churches and reaching new people that are very
challenging.We shouldn't be surprised
with that.New Testament letters to new
churches make it obvious that there were many challenges then as well. Some of these challenges are cultural and
others are doctrinal. We have learned a
lot during this process and are still adapting to a steep learning curve.
Your shepherds would like to update you on our church
plants and share with you our thoughts and struggles. We are setting aside two time slots to give
you that opportunity. The first will be
Sunday morning, May 17, during Bible class hour. The second will be on Wednesday night, May
20, during our 6:30 time slot.Of
course, we will also be happy to answer any of your questions one on one at any
time.
We began Kairos with specific expectations and
commitments based on good intentions and all the information we could foresee
at the time.As on other occasions,
situations change and new circumstances require careful wisdom and discernment. We always regret when our best laid plans do
not materialize exactly as we expected. It is painful for us to face situations we never intended to face and we
ask for your understanding, support, input, and prayers as we navigate new
territory.
In 2003 we prayed that God would give us a dream so big
that we couldn't do it without him. He gave us that kind of dream. But while we have found the oversight of a
church multiplication movement to be challenging and demanding, it is also
exciting.We have never been more
encouraged about the prospects for reaching new people and planting new
churches.The benefits are
overwhelmingly greater than the problems and obstacles.God is working through Kairos in exciting
ways.We believe God will give us the
wisdom and discernment to navigate the future for the sake of lost souls and
the glory of God.
We'd like to bring you up to speed and ask for your
prayerful help as we continue to break new ground and face the issues that
aggressive church planting brings.

God has been working in our family to become an increasingly mission-minded church. This year, up to 75 Southwest members will be involved in short-term mission projects in three different parts of the world. From a medical mission in Ecuador, South America to a children’s camp with the church in Szolnok, Hungary to a mission of service and home repair in East Tennessee, Southwest Christians will literally be going into all the world. Not only do these missions help spread the gospel, but they also have life-changing implications for those who go. The deepened passion to take the gospel to the world not only changes them, but also shapes the future mission of this church. Some of our young adults have been involved in longer-term missions as a result of short-term mission experiences.
The total cost for these mission efforts is approximately $75,000. We are asking Southwest members to contribute $25,000 toward this amount. This means that the people going on these missions will be responsible for the other $50,000 themselves. As you can see, they are making sacrifices on their own to help take the gospel to others. Our contributions give us an opportunity to personally take part in these mission efforts and to support those who are able and willing to go and serve.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help make a difference in Southwest’s own fulfillment of the Great Commission. Let’s join together to take the gospel from Southwest to the World!
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not
believed in?
And how can they believe in the one of whom they
have not heard?
And how can they hear without someone preaching to
them?
