WELCOME TO SOUTHWEST
Who We Are
Southwest Church of Christ is a non-denominational family of Christians worshipping and serving our Lord Jesus Christ. We view the name "Church of Christ" as more of a descriptive term than a denominational title or affiliation. Thus, our name "Church of Christ" simply means that we are a church that belongs to Christ. We are committed to being a Bible-based, Christ-centered fellowship that lives for the glory of God, the spiritual growth of people, and ministry to our community and the world.
Southwest is a church of more than 1,300 Christians from all walks of life. We see ourselves as big enough to offer lots of opportunities for personal growth and ministry but small enough to find a place of belonging and fellowship. We firmly believe that we are to be God's instrument to make a difference in the community where we live, so our goal is to be a church for the Jonesboro community. As a result, we work especially hard to be sensitive to people seeking Christ for the first time—or for the first time in a long time. We want to be a place where people can comfortably come, regardless of their past, and know that they will be loved, accepted, and will find the help they need to make God a priority again.
The Southwest building is conveniently located on a 17-acre tract of property at the corner of West Nettleton and James Street (behind the YMCA). Your first look at our property will be the Optimist Club Park. The land for this park is provided by Southwest and is equipped by the Optimist Club. Behind the park is are Southwest’s facilities, which contain a 1,200-seat auditorium, 35 meeting rooms, offices, a teen center, gym, walking track, nurseries, and the Better Life Counseling Center.
Southwest is served by nineteen elders, eight ministers, and 48 deacons. The church is involved in more than 50 local ministries and supports foreign missions in Panama, Kenya, Romania, New Zealand, and Hungary. Southwest also enjoys a strong family life ministry, an active children's ministry, teen ministry, and a strong campus ministry at Arkansas State University. Southwest also hosts numerous personal and family related community events each year.

What We Believe
Southwest church is God-Exalting, Christ-Centered, Grace-Orientated, and Life-Related! The following are a few biblical principles that shape our life together. They are included only because we have found them to be helpful to people who want to know us better.
1. We Aspire to Have No Creed But the Bible. While we acknowledge that our human tendencies get in the way, our objective is to keep coming back to Scripture to let the word of God keep shaping and reshaping our beliefs and practices. We simply want to be faithful in applying God's will to our time and place.
2. We Aspire to be Non-Denominational Christians. Simply put, we seek to be a fellowship that belongs only to Christ. We do not desire that "Church of Christ" be interpreted as a denominational affiliation, but as a descriptive term, (i.e., a gathering of Christians belonging to Christ). Our goal is not to promote some sectarian form of Christianity, but merely to be faithful, obedient followers of Jesus. Becoming a member at Southwest is not joining a "Church of Christ" denomination, but simply becoming a part of a fellowship of Christians.
3. We Aspire to be Christians Only, but Do Not Claim to be the Only Christians. We try to be as faithful and obedient to God as we possibly can, but we never assume God's job of judging the eternal destiny of others. To be sure, not everyone who claims to be a Christian is one. However, anyone who has entered into a saved relationship with God through Jesus Christ is a Christian and a member of Christ's church.
4. We are an Autonomous Fellowship of Christians. This means that we have no organizational ties to any other local church. We are accountable to no one but God. There is no central headquarters, hierarchy of church government, or governing board beyond the local church. We serve under a plurality of shepherds who provide spiritual leadership as we seek to follow no one but Christ.
If you have specific questions about what we believe please contact one of our ministers or simply attend our next Southwest 101 class.
